Wasn't that a great marathon yesterday. Too bad "our" guys didn't finish higher. Both Hall and Goucher were in it to the very end. I remember watching the Boston Marathon when I was younger and not being very interested in it. Nowadays I wouldn't miss it for the world. One of the great things about running is that it doesn't cost a darn thing. How often can you go to a major venue and not pay a dollar and be able to come close to the superstars. One of these days I will get up to Boston to watch a race or maybe when I'm 105 , I'll be able to qualify for it with my 100 hour marathon.
I supposed to be tapering this week, but since I only run 3 days a week(maybe 4) it doesn't feel much like a taper. By the time of my race I will run 3 times; albeit less mileage.
This race seems to have a little more excitement with it than last months half marry. -
- Last months was a training run with no goal
- I signed up for it many months ago with anticipation ever since
- This is a long, hard race - not long, easy
- 25,000 runners with 100,000 spectators and a few superstars(other -5,000 w/ 6 spectators, yeah just 6)
- First time traveling to a race(Knoxville to Nashville 4 hours)
- Meeting one of my blogger buddies - Shosh
- I'm really nervous - no kidding. First time for any of my races.
I set a goal for 2:15.(10:19 pace)[no chuckling from the sub 2 hr people] It's reaching a little for me. I haven't been able to run that pace in any of my training runs(best 10:50) and even in my 15K race last Nov. My pace versus my goal is 25 seconds slower. I've been able to keep my pace "up" to the 8 mile mark, but for anything past 8 miles is a big question mark. This last month I 've been running my tempo's harder(9:55-10:00 pace) , but I'm spent afterwards. *My mind aimless wanders at pace vs projected pace vs vomiting pace vs pass out pace* Nervous are we?????
Enough of that crap, I'm driving myself crazy!
Oh yeah, I did buy one of those pacetats dumalahickies.

No chuckling from me on the target race time. My half marathon was a whopping 10:50 pace. I was just happy for the darn thing to be over...
Training to run such long distances is both hard and time consuming. Did I mention hard?
OOOH I MISS SHOSH TOO!
I think you have set a great goal. You'll hit it. Just stay confident and positive and you'll be good.
Good luck on your race. I think your goal is fabulous. can't wait to hear how it went.
GOOD LUCK!!! You'll have a blast no matter what. You've been planning for this for so long, so I hope it's everything you've hoped for and more! :)
Good luck at the race. Tell Shosh Hi and to get her arse back to blogland. Tri training without blogging about is is just wrong! I am jealous of the blogger meet up.
A taper is a taper...enjoy it!!
And pick me, pick me!! :-)
Hey, I use to drive a Ford Pinto stationwagon (before I went headlong down into a 15 foot embankment), sorry off topic...
You as so ready for this race, I'm excited for you!!
Your race pace is "doable" and attainable...Go Dave GO!!!
You can do this- no need to get so so nervous!! I have faith- keep up the good work Dave!
Oh Dave! Wish you weren't so nervous. Enjoy the journey! Be happy that you have made yourself fit and fast enough to do the race. I cannot WAIT to see pics, and I am super jealous that you get to meet Shosh! Good luck, Dave...you are gonna do great!!!!
The best comparison you could come up with was between a Pinto and a Mercedes? Personally, I would have gone for a Yugo and a Ferrari. Now there's a comparison for you. Good luck on the race, and remember, if you don't vomit afterwards, you weren't really racing.
Good luck on the race! You'll do great, and don't sweat the outcome. Just run your race (like Ryan Hall) and give it your best shot. BTW-the marathon finishes were so fun! I was yelling for Gaucher to stay with the others, but she couldn't hear me from 33 miles away, I guess. It's great to have Americans giving us actual hope in that race!
Good luck! You'll do awesome.
I wore the free clif-bar pace chart for the Philly marathon.
It did check it out a few times.
What's wrong with 2:15?!? I ran my first HM in 2:54 so boo-freakin-yah beat that!
You're so cute with your nervousness! I'm SURE you'll do fantastic!
I wish you good good luck Dave!
You will do it - you will run 2.15 half marathon!
RUN ON!!!
Listen up my friend... I have great confidence that you will do GREAT and you will ROCK. I am calling my bookie in Las Vegas that you will get it under 2:15. Anyone care to join me the betting?
I think your target time is great! I wish I had the nerve to go for a 1/2 marathon. I'm nervous about doing a 10K LOL!
You'll do awesome!
Posting your goal is a great way to keep yourself accountable. You'll get there, I know it. :o)
You are totally right - once you buy one of those temp tattoo deals you are totally locked in :)
I think everyone questions if they can hit their goal during the taper time (I know I am). Trust your training.
