Day Of Reckoning

Can you believe how quick 2008 went by? Here and gone..
Well I believe 2009 will be a great year. I've been thinking how I'm going to plan this year and plan I will. I've always been a "fly by the seat of your pants kinda guy", but this year I'm going to try to be a better planner and to not procrastinate as much. I'm not perfect, so try I will. I've got my calendar next to me and I've already jotted stuff down for the year.
My first race of the year will be the Strawberry Plains 10K on Feb 14th, Knoxville 5K on March 29th, and Greenway 5K on April 5th and possibly the
Country Music 1/2 marathon on April 25th. Not sure about the 1/2, but we'll see?
Besides the racing, I also have an early goal of 750 miles this year. My super-duper ultimate goal would be 1000 miles, but 750 for now. That should be doable. If my running goes well in the Spring, (barring the injury bug that seemed to hit every running soul this past year) I will sign up for more races and maybe another 1/2 marathon.
Now the Day of Reckoning!
On Andrew's blog the other day, he posted a weight loss challenge hosted by Robert . Since this year will be the year that I drop more poundage(I will, darn it!), this is just the motivation I need to get my butt moving or should I say stop feeding my face.
So glad the holidays are over! One of the tell-tale statistics that I noticed from my post the other day was the amount of calories I burned while running. 40 lbs worth! If I would've ate properly, I would be at least 20-30lbs lower than I am now. Right? Not upset because it was a good healthy year, and it really was in so many ways. I weighed in today for the 13 week challenge and am highly motivated. I actually turned down my mom's homemade potato salad and cookies today. hehe
Wish me Luck!!!!
This is going to be a good year guys!!
Peace

I love that cartoon- in face I love all of your cartoons! Where do you find these things? lol.

Your running goal is a good one. I like that you are practical and don't overwhelm yourself. I tend to shoot for the stars and get a bit over eager at times!

Your races sound great!! I think you will be ready for the half for sure. Sign up for it now, and ensure that you will be ready! :)

I think I will sign up for a 5k end of March, just os my 1st half, isn't my first race.

Dave great way to start off 2009!!

I am getting really nervous, i have some weird type of thigh pain on both legs when i run and even walk. So, i am trying to take some days off to hopefully heal it.. I am afraid i won't make the half on jan 25th.

I am only telling you!!! Ooops do others read the comments?? :O)

TIme will tell i guess!!!!

Happy Monday to you!!!

Looking at your mileage, you should be good for the April half!

I got a rude reminder that the later you wait to sign up for these races, the more expensive it gets.

Happy 2009!

Oooh, it's tough to turn down moms cooking. Plus, you're in TN, so I know that potato salad is good stuff!

Sounds like you have some great plans for 09. You've done so well this year, I can't wait to see what's in store for you.

thanks for your comment! I've seen my HR as high as 203 bpm... not in a while mind you, but it's been there. The more I'm reading about HR training, maybe my average isn't so bad for a zone 3 type of training, like tempo runs, etc, but i just can't get keep my heart rate low, so i'm not getting the benefit of endurance/low hr training. i think that's what i need to work on.. Seems like as soon as i start activity, it shoots up, stays up, but decreases as i stop... which i guess is why my doc never saw too much of an issue. i think i need to figure out my ideal zones based on my max HR, and focus on staying in a low zone, and be disciplined enough not to increase too much. anyway, sorry for taking up so much room on your comments :)

I have also set goals and made an overall plan for the year. This is the first time I have ever done that.

I am not so much a "fly by the seat of you pants" type of guy as much as I have been a "procrastinate and dont really do anything" kind of guy.

Stop and check out the last post. I finally got the courage to share part of my story of weight loss.
Your story is inspiring.
What sort of healthcare do you do?
Take care!

I started running off and on about a year and a half ago. I became addicted to the races. Don't you just love the 5K's? THe country 1/2 sounds fun too though I'm not much of a country music fan. Glad to have found your blog!

Hi Dave. Just wanted to say thanks for the nice comment you left me. I am currently taking meds and getting help and while I'm not ashamed of it, I just get sick of it! Anyway, thanks again.
